A new publication by the OIF demonstrates – with focus on the LEADER Region Weinviertel Ost – how young people can be encouraged to get involved in voluntary work and retained in the long term. For young people, flexible, occasional and digital forms of voluntary work are important on the one hand, whilst clubs and associations play a major role on the other. Motivations for getting involved include self-efficacy and recognition, whilst barriers include a lack of time and mobility, as well as rigid structures. The report recommends early, low-threshold entry points, opportunities for participation in decision-making, and visible appreciation.
